Patsy Gilthorpe - Celebrating 35 Years at Fusion Group

All at Fusion would like to say a big congratulations to Patsy Gilthorpe for completing 35 years’ service with the business on the 9th March 2022. 25-04-2022

Patsy started her journey with Fusion on the 9th March 1987 working in component preparation and was based in Plastics 1 on Carrwood Road. At the time there were just over 80 people working for the company and they had just moved to a new 3 shift system.

Patsy has held numerous roles over the last 35 years including Machine Operative, Group Training Officer, Integrated Management Systems Technician, and others before becoming Facilities Manager which is her current role. There is no ‘typical’ day as a Facilities Manager as no two days are alike. Patsy controls contractors and building maintenance, customer complaints and quality standards for the company. This is a vital role in ensuring the company follows all Health and Safety protocol and complies with the relevant quality standards on a daily basis.

On what she has enjoyed most about her 35 years with Fusion, Patsy said,
“I have enjoyed the social side. The pantomimes, walks, family fun days and sports days were all great to be part of. I enjoyed introducing the NVQ Level 1 in Polymer Processing alongside my colleague Lisa Shelton. Another great part of my time was visiting the depot network and getting to know all the teams around the country.”

Patsy is also an integral part of the Fusion Charity Committee who help the business to raise thousands of pounds every year for local and national charities. Often a lot of the work done by the team is out of work hours and we would not be able to raise some of the incredible amounts of money without the hard work and dedication of the team.

There have been lots of changes within the business throughout Patsy’s time at Fusion.
“Fusion has changed immeasurably over the years. The introduction of automation and barcodes were big steps for the business.”
Loyal, Sentimental and Stubborn are the three words that Patsy believes describes her best. Loyalty is something that is definitely evidenced with the amount of time she has worked for Fusion. Patsy met her husband Ian at Fusion, who also recently celebrated a 35-year anniversary with the business. They met in 1987, became a couple in 1991 and married in 2002.

Patsy’s biggest inspiration is her mum.
“She left a very small Welsh village to complete her midwifery training and ended up in Sheffield. She is kindness itself and is very supportive to me, my siblings and her grand-children.”
When not at work Patsy enjoys travelling, walking, gardening, going to the theatre and a spot of photography. She lists 2 of the world’s biggest cities as her favourite places.
“New York was amazing and one of my favourite places. Bangkok was stunning, the rooftop bar tour and the temples were spectacular in equal measure. Both cities were great.”
Patsy’s mantra/motto in life is
“Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.”
35 years working for the same employer is a truly fantastic achievement! Everybody at Fusion would like to say a big congratulations and well done to Patsy for her service!
